In the winter, Helen visited to a New England village. It was her first opportunity to enter into the treasure of snow. There were frozen lakes and vast snow fields. She was surprised to see that trees and bushes were bare with hardly a leaf here and there. The birds had flown away and their nests were filled with snow. The whole place looked barren and lifeless. One day, the wind was cold and a snowstorm followed. Tiny flakes began to fall silently and softly from above. The next morning all the roads were hidden under snow and no landmark was visible. One day, Helen made her way with difficulty to the pine grove. The trees stood motionless draped white in snow. Their twigs sparkled like diamonds as the rays of sun fell upon them. The light was so dazzling that it penetrated even Helen’s blind eyes. Their favourite amusement during that winter was tobogganing. In Helen’s words, it was ‘exhilarating madness’ and a joyous experience. So, Helen called her ‘North Visit’ a treasure house of a new beautiful world.

Ever since her first visit to Boston, Helen spent every winters in the north. Once , during a visit to a New England village , she experienced and enjoyed the 'treasure' of the snow.

The trees were stripped of their leaves ; birds had flown away, leaving their empty nests behind and all life seemed to have come to a standstill. Helen expressed her feelings in the form of a short poem .

In this way she liked the treasures of snow.

Hope this will help you!!!
