Ice floats on water because the density of ice is less than that of water .the density of ice is 0.916g/cc whereas the density of water is 1g/cc

Large masses of ice known as icebergs can float on sea water. The density of ice is 0.917 g cm while that of sea water is 1.02 g cm. Therefore icebergs float on sea water.
