why does ice float on water ?​

the water molecules are loosely packed while liquid.But when frozen they arrange in hexagonal shapes trapping air in between.this air decreases the density of ice.

Hence,ice floats on water

Answer is simple

THE hydrogen bonds formed with oxygen loosen up as temperature cools down causing the volume of ice to be less then volume of water
