The intruder had a criminal life and wanted a fresh new start. When he saw Gerrard, he witnesses that Gerrard shares similar physical appearance with him. Also he found that Gerrard was very mysterious and rarely met anyone, so the Intruder would not have much problem since not many people identified him. On top of that he owned a car which has been described as a dandy bus.
