Iron does not react with water in the ordinary temperature. Itreacts only with steam. When steam is passed over red-hot iron, iron (II,III) oxide and hydrogen gas are formed which requires a higher temperature than compare to all the temperature forms of water.
Hope it helps

Raaghav17oct: why do we need high temperature for iron and water to react??
DonDj: Because when the water is heated at the highest temperature i.e;steam the intermolecular force of attraction between the molecules becomes very low. Thus Suitable for iron to react
Raaghav17oct: OK thanks..
DonDj: Plz mark it as brainlest of it helps
Raaghav17oct: right now there is no other answer so I can't mark
DonDj: Ok
