hey

water gets rust in fresh water because of the following reasons:-

i) Fresh water is the enabler of fast oxidation of iron so it causes rust.

ii) Iron forms hydrated iron oxide when it comes in contact of air i.e. majorly O2 and water i.e. specially fresh water.

iii) It rusts more in fresh water than the normal or salty water because strained metal gets easily oxidised.

iv) here is the reaction for the same:-

4Fe + 3O2 + H2O ---> 2Fe2O.xH2O

hope it helps u

Hydrogen=H2O
Iron=Fe

When H2O and Fe react with each other

2Fe+3H2O =Fe2O3 + 3H2 gas (release)

Fe2O3 has reddish brown colour which appears us as rusting.

So, iron gets rust.
