Why does it become difficult to move a striker on an old carom board? What is done to make the movement smoother?

Answer:

Powder is sprinkled on the board of carrom to make its surface smooth or slippery so that striker strikes smoothly, and secondly the coins too get to slide easily. Technically, it reduces the friction between striker, Carrom Board and coins.
