This is Newton's laws of motion in play. When the bus moves, your body due to inertia tends ito remain in the same position. So you feel the backward motion. Similarly when the bus stops, your body( part of it which is free to move) continues to move and you tend to lurch forward.
Another example is when you jump out of a moving vehicle, your feet are brought to rest on contact with the ground but your upper body has the same speed as the moving bus and you fall dangerously either forward or backward depending on which direction you are facing at the time of the jump. That is why people are warned not to disembark from a moving vehicle whether it is a bus or a train.

This is because the feet of passenger which is in contact of floor of bus start moving due to prsence of inertia the upr part of body tends to rest. The passenger lens backward direction.
