Juliet wanted to sell her villa for sale because she was in a great financial crisis. She was in a need of money.

There is no specific reason given behind Juliette’s intention behind selling the villa. However, the possible reason might be change of place. She might have seen a better place and house to live in. We come to this conclusion from the fact that she wanted to sell it at any price. She said, ‘Oh! I'm fed up with the place.’

There was no financial reason behind the decision. Though she talks of ‘hard times ‘and ‘bad business’, but this she talks about the economy and market. Her own financial condition is good. We come to know about it when she rejects her maid’s offer to work in a film for eight hundred francs. She refuses to accept the offer saying: ‘But how kind of you. ... Thank God I'm not quite so hard up as that yet!’
