Why does Keller say that the Christmas after miss Sullivan's arrival was 'a great event' ?

The first Christmas after miss Sullivan arrival proved to be a great event because everyone in the family had prepared surprises for Helen. What pleased her the most was that she and miss Sullivan also prepared surprises for everybody else.This was the reason, which made Christmas 'a great event'. Hope this helps you.
