Kerala is bound by the Arabian Sea to it’s west, and the Western Ghats mountain range to it’s east.

We have 4 seasons in Kerala - winter, summer, S-W monsoon and N-E monsoon.

During monsoon, Thiruvananthapuram enjoys a good rain. The highlands are covered by dense forests of around 500 sq. km, which helps greatly in getting rains.

During summer, the greenery helps in keeping the temperature down. The recorded highest temperature is 38.0°C and the average during summer is around 30°C. But the summer season can be uncomfortable because of the high humidity caused by the Arabian Sea.

During winter, the Arabian Sea keeps the temperature from falling down. The recorded lowest temperature is 16°C and the average during winter is around 22°C.

But, unfortunately everything is changing.

“Climate Change” is real. In 2016, the total rainfall in Kerala was the lowest ever. You can see the detailed report from the Meteorology Department here - https://goo.gl/DyQn9O - and the primary reasons include deforestation and unsustainable development. Summers are getting hotter every year.

If we don’t act accordingly now, I will have to answer another similar question in a near future, with the words “worst climate” in it

Temperature remains moderate at places close to the sea. This is because the heating of land causes wind to blow from the sea to land and cooling of land causes wind to blow from land to sea.

Kerala is located near the sea. So temperature remains moderate at these places .

It can be inferred that nearness to sea/ocean is a factor that influence the distribution of temperature.
