because nothing can travel faster than light. Spacetime adjust itself to prevent violation of universe speed limit which is speed of light.
Imagine car is the frame of reference and moving with constant Velocity and headlight of cars is on and you are stationery. From cars perspective speed of light should be more than it's actual speed but that is always constant. It can't change. It doesn't depend on frame of reference because car's length contracts from your perspective and from car perspective everything outside is contracted to maintain the speed of light constant. The adjustment of spacetime is called length contraction. It's hard to imagine but if want to understand it you can do it. It's only contraction of frame of reference in other words spacetime to make the speed of light constant. I hope you can understand it.
