Yes it is a common convention that light travels in an straight line. students thought wrongly in school..but if u reach higher studies u will conclude light is the movement of photons and movement of it is irregular but in the direction of energy applied to it..And its not true 100% that light travels straight cause refraction bend the light...for lower studies the convention is enough to understand properties of light.

MananPadsala8233: I am asking why??
Mukunth27: i said it doesn't travel in straight but it is a convention(believed that is true when in older days)
Mukunth27: schools follow conventions...a best example of it is sunrise... in 1st standard or 2nd standard you might have thought sun rises in the East but when you reach 6th standard they will say you that the sun doesn't rise but we are rotating.
Mukunth27: current education system is worst
MananPadsala8233: Thanks for answering
