Why does Madge begin by agreeing that Mr. Miller may be right in his claim on the dog?

In the story ‘The brown Wolf’, Mr Miller claims that the dog is his dog. Madge begins to agree with the claim. This is because the dog rushes to Mr Miller once he sees him. He licks the hands of Miller and obeys every order posed by Mr Miller. Even though Madge and Irvin named the dog ‘Wolf’, the dog simply obeys and responds when called by his previous name ‘Brown’.
