Environmental pollution is damaging the monument Taj Mahal and discolouring its once translucent white marble. Mathura refinery is a biggest culprit in damaging Taj Mahal.

Sulphur dioxide emission from industry have reached levels ten times above the prescribed level. Combined with oxygen and moisture, sulphur dioxide settles on the surface of the tomb and corrodes the marble, farming a fungus that experts call as ‘marble cancer;’

Mathura Refinery releases toxic gases like oxides of sulphur into air.

When rainfall occurs Sulphur Dioxide combines with rain water to form sulphuric acid.

When this acid water falls on Taj Mahal which is made up of marble stone origin of marble occurs.

So Mathura Refinery poses problems to Taj Mahal.
