Meiosis ensures cell division in which four daughter cells are produced from one mother cell, each having half the number of chromosomes of their mother cell, as seen in gametes or spores. Mitosis gives rise to two daughter cells from a mother cell, each having same number of chromosomes as that of the mother cell.
