When the egg in female is not fertilized then, the egg ruptures and along with the uterus lining of blood vessels which carries blood comes out through vagina..

The main reason is the egg does not get fertilized and if it will stay there it can cause diseases that why it needs to come out with the blood ..

When ovum does not get fertilized, due to non – availability of sperm in the female body, then longer needed and hence it breaks. So, the thick and soft inner lining of uterus along with the blood vessels and the dead ovum comes out of the vagina in the form of blood, called menstruation.
