Menstruation is a monthly process in which blood and mucus come out via the vaginal canal.
This cycle repeats every month because one egg is produced from the ovary each month, and the uterus (womb) prepares to accept the fertilized egg at the same time.
As a result, the uterus' inner lining thickens and is supplied with blood to support the embryo.
If the egg is not fertilized, the uterine lining breaks down slowly and is discharged via the vaginal opening in the form of blood and mucus.
