Why does metal corrode in the presence of oxygen and water?

corrosion is the process in which the metal surface reacts with atmospheric moist/water and oxygen. then it forms a layer of rust on the surface.

ex. when iron is exposed to moist and oxygen it gets rusted/corroded

Fe3 + 3OH-  ------>  Fe(OH)3
