Because metal oxides are basic in nature ,and if u want to test tat ,u can take mgo ( magnesium oxide )ash and mis with water and test on litmus where red colour change to blue

Also the basic characteristics increase from right to left in a period which indicates tat metals r basic

So metal oxides r also basic
