Why does mr easton feel embarrassed, uncomfortable and tense

Mr. Easton felt embarrassed , uncomfortable and tense because he was caught in an strange situation .
He was being taken to the Jail but on the way he met his old friend , Miss Fairchild and on the contrary he felt embarrassed being exposed to his friend and being caught in the situation where he acted as he was the Marshal and he was taking a criminal (who actually was the Marshal) to the Prison
