'' my butterfly days are over'' signifies that Easton' s good and adventurous days of making money and deceiving people are over and now he would have to suffer for his mistakes. Therefore he will not be in Washington in the near future

By saying "My butterfly day are over, I fear?", Mr Easton actually meant that his days of earning money by cheating people is over and now he is going to prison but Miss Fairchild took it in a positive manner and thought by this statement Mr. Easton meant that now as he had become a marshal, he cannot enjoy his life and would be gennerally busy and working.
Thanking You :)
