Due to surface tension of mercury . That's why molecules want to remain together .
hope it helps you.

Answer:
Mercury is a metal which is in liquid state. The molecules of water are not very close so because of the friction of glass the surface of glass remains wet( water remains on glass because their molecules are detached easily). Mercury's molecules are very close as compared to water. So it's molecules are not detached and thus it doesn't stick to glass because of friction and doesn't make the glass wet. Therefore, mercury doesn't stick to glass as water does.
