Because many of his ancistors struggled for freedom but they were lost with time but Nelson mandela believe's that even though they were dead ,their efforts does not go in vein.

Through this statement, Mandela means that he can identify with the sacrifices of all those noble and courageous men who contributed and fought for the collective freedom of the African people.
