The raised Mercury level does not fall down in clinical thermometer after a checkup because of the presence of a kink in the clinical thermometer just above the glass bulb containing mercury. So the mercury level rises after getting heat but it can not fall down after removing the heat source because the kink restricts the mercury level to come down easily.
