Reactions energy energy is reabsorbed are known as endothermic .

e.g. when solid NH4Cl is added in water then the test tube becomes cold which indicates that the heat is absorbed.

NH4Cl(s) + H2O(l) --> NH4Cl(aq) {cold tube}

Reaction in which heat is released are called exothermic reactions .

e.g. combustion of carbon

C + O2 --> Co2 + H2O + energy
