The water is the mouth is called saliva and is secreted whenever we eat anything. This saliva starts the digestion of food in the mouth, by making food softer and breaking it down while chewing. It also has some digestive enzymes which break down the food chemically.

When we see delicious food, the saliva is secreted as a reflex action by the body, in anticipation of us eating the food and the body preparing itself to digest the said food.

Our mouth waters and make saliva when we smell  or see food is because our body is getting excited by detecting through our nose and eye. It triggers the brain to send out signals that trigger the saliva glands to react by watering.
