The Diaphragm Contracts on Inhale and Relaxes on Exhale
When the diaphragm contracts, it changes the shape and, more importantly, increases the volume of the thoracic cavity. This increase in volume results in a decrease in pressure within the cavity. This decrease in pressure causes air to flow into the lungs.
