why does oxygen and nitrogen share electrons instead they can gain 2 and 3 electrons...? can anyone tell the reason behind it..?​

Explanation:

because the atom whose outermost shell have more than four electron

valency of that shell calculated by

valency = 8- number of electron

atom outermost electron valency

O 6 8-6=2

N 5 8-5=3

so these these can gain oxygen can gain two electron and nitrogen can gain three to complete its octet
