Oxygen occur in nature in molecular form and not in its Atomic form. Because oxygen atom is highly unstable in atomic form and it also have high Electron affinity i.e high electronegativity. Therefore oxygen atom combines with the atom of same element or another element to attain stability. By forming a double covalent bond with oxygen atom it form an diatomic molecule due to which the oxygen becomes stables and also attains the electronic configuration of nearest noble element.
