Actually, oxygen rich blood and carbon dioxide rich blood don't mix in the heart because they are separated by a wall named septum. The oxygen rich blood enters the right atrium from pulmonary vein and carbon dioxide rich blood enters left atrium from Vena cavae. the carbon dioxide rich blood is pumped out of the heart and is taken to the lungs where carbon dioxide rich blood becomes oxygen rich blood. The oxygen rich blood is taken back to the heart by pulmonary vein where the heart pumps it to aorta. The aorta takes the blood to the body parts where the cells take in the oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Then the carbon dioxide is taken back to the heart.
