↪Wood can safely absorb large quantities of water before reaching moisture content levels that will be inviting for decay fungi. Most corrosion is electrochemical so having the iron nail in constant contact with the water will lead to faster corrosion.

Nail inside the wood gets corroded due to moisture

  • Wood is a porous material that has the capacity to absorb large amounts of water.
  • Although the outer surface of the wood looks plain, the microstructure examination gives us the result of wood being porous. Thus the nail present inside the wood is susceptible to moisture and gets corroded.
  • To prevent this the outer surface can be coated with varnish, which acts as a repellent and prevents the wood from absorbing water.
