Why does phenol make the blue litmus turn into red?

Answer is simple , blue litmus turns to red only when the substance is acidic and contains hydrogen ions (H+) more and hydroxide ions (OH-) in less quantity, phenol is acidic thats why it reacts and turns blue litmus paper to red !
