Why does poet not offer money to the child to buy a new ball?

- The poet not offer the boy money to buy another ball because poet thought that money can buy a new ball but it cannot buy the memories and feelings attached to the ball. Poet wanted to console him but he stopped himself, so that boy will learn a tough lesson of life that one day everyone will be going to lose their loved one. Poet said that now the time has come for the boy to learn and accept the reality of life.
