Why does prolonged heating of glucose gives hexane?

Glucose on prolonged heating with hydroiodic acid (HI) in the presence of red Phosphorus results in the formation of n-hexane. Formation of n -hexane indicates that all the six carbon atoms in glucose are linked in a straight chain.
