why does radioactive elements lie after at.no of 80

It is due to the ratio of number of neutrons to number of protons in the nucleus.  It this ratio crosses a certain limit then radio activity triggers off.

The nucleus is so closely packed with so many particles that the repulsive forces start dominating the attractive forces.
