Answer:because of the presence of western ghats in southern India and Himalayan in northern India

Explanation:From the sea of Madagascar rain filled clouds approaches southern India here the strikes with the high western ghats and starts raining and as they move forward the concentration of water in them decreases and rainfall decreases from west to east in southern India and due to same region in northern India also but here clouds strikes with Himalayan mountains and as we all know the height of Himalayan is very high.

Rainfall decrease from east to west in northern india beacuse of the progressive decrease in humidity of the winds. As the moisture bearing winds of the bay of bengal branch move further and further island, they exhaust most of the moisture they carry along with them. This consequently leads to a gradual decrease in the amount of rainfall from east to west.
