An oscillating dipole will radiate light of frequency ν which gives rise to RAYLEIGH scattering of light (also called elastic scattering) A vibrating moleculewill change the polarizability(remember bigger molecules aremore polarizable). A Ramanspectrum arises when a photon scatters from a molecule
