why does roots of a plant bend away from light? I know this is caused by auxin hormone but how does bend of roots away from light help plants?

The root of the plant bend away from light because of phototrophic movement . Trophic movement is plant movement which is directional movement and is related to growth. When plant shows movememt towards stimulation of light, it is called phototrophic movement or phototropism.

● Due to negative photo tropism roots of a plant and away from the light and get penetrated into the soil.
● Such growth of roots into the soil help the plant to absorb water and minerals present in the soil and grow rapidly.
