  • Sharks and Whales are aquatic animals i.e. water is their habitat.
  • They have the respiratory system adapted to the aquatic life i.e. they breathe through gills unlike humans.
  • They need oxygen rich water for their survival.

Answer:

It's because Sharks don't have lungs so cannot take oxygen in land like terrestrial animals. And whales cannot because they get overheated on land and won't survive long. So, these creatures only live in water because they can survive in water which they can't while they are in land.
