Because silk , like cotton, wool, and linen, etc. …. Is a fiber, not a fabric.

Just like your underwear, your towels, your tablecloth, and your bed sheets are made from cotton fibers…. but do not look or feel the same, depending on the WAY the cotton was spun, and fabricated, and processed .

 Even though Eri is spun from the cocoons of domesticated silkworms, it is a “peacesilk” because the silkcaterpillars are not destroyed in the cocoon but are allowed to emerge as moths and live a full lifecycle. Because the cocoons are damaged when the moth emerges, Eri silk is spun rather than reeled.
