why does silver conduct electricity better than gold

Although it is the best conductor, copper and gold are used more often in electrical applications because copper is less expensive and gold hasa much higher corrosion resistance. Because silver tarnishes, it is less desirable for high frequencies because the exterior surface becomes less conductive.

silver has 5 electron shells, with 46 (18+18+8+2) electrons shielding the valence electron. It has one electron in the valence, so it is a good conductor.
where as the atomic radious of gold is more than the silver ...so silver is better
