Why do sodium chloride solution freeze at a lower temperature than water ? Sodium chloride is non volatile solute. When sodium chloride is dissolved in a solvent , its vapour pressure decreases. Therefore, the solution will boil at a higher temperature and the solvent will freeze at a lower temperatur.
