soil is rich in nitrates and no fertilizers are needed when leguminous plants are grown on it because in the leguminous plants there are rhizobium bacterias in the roots of that plant. Rhizobium bacteria absorbs nitrogen directly from air and there are nitrate ions that are formed by that bacteria. So this is the reason of your question.

Answer:when leguminious plants are grown in the soil then Rhizobium which lives in nodules of the plant convert atmospheric nitrogen into soluble nitrates .Thus ,soil become rich in nitrates.
