why does steam cause more severe burns than boiling water

Because steam is the vapour form of water.when water changes it's state it takes heat so the heat if steam and hear when changing state is greater than that if water that's why it causes severe burns

Boiling water contains only a specific amount of heat energy required for it to boil. However, as steam is formed from boiling water, it contains the heat energy of boiling water, along with the latent heat of vaporization. Hence, assteam has more heat energy, it cancause more severe burns than boiling water.
