Steam produces more severe burns than boiling water even though both are at 100oC because steam contains more heat, in the form of latent heat, than boiling water.
Explanation:
comparison to water steam produces more heat energy in the form of latent heat of vaporization .(what is latent heat of vaporization- it is a physical properties of a substance it is defined as the heat which required to change one mole of liquid to its boling point under standard atmospheric pressure itz unit is kj / kg mole .)
steam has more engery then the boling water .it posses additional lanet heat of vaporization so when steam falls on skin and condeses to produce water it gives out 22.5*105 j/ kg more heat more heat at the same temperature therefore burns produced by steam are more severe than burn by water .
or
when the water at room temperature is heated itz temperature increase and it absorbs heat which known as sensible heat therefore steam produces more burn .
