Why does stones are kept between rails?

Hi friend

There are Ballast that is crushed pieces of stones in rails because it ensures that the track is in place. And it holds the cross ties made up of wood that hold to the tracks. It holds the sleepers and are hard enough to ensure that there isn't any sliding over of wooden beams and also helps in ceasing of the rails.

=> Track Ballast ensures that tracks stay in place when very heavy trains go over them .
=> These stones holds the wooden cross ties in its place
=> These wooden cross ties hold the rails in its place.
=> These wooden cross ties are also known as railway sleepers.
=>The ballast are very rough stones , and have enough rough edges which ensure that the wooden beams don't slide over each other
