Why does sugar dissolve in water but not sand?

The polar water molecule attract the negative and positive areas on the polar sucrose molecules which makes sucrose dissolved in water.
sand is insoluble in water .This is because water can't break the bond between silica ( sand/ silicon dioxide) as it does in sugar .And sand is a non-polar molecules...... hope this will help u

sugar disolve because it is a solvent and the molecules are tightly packed but in sand not
