Why does sun appare reddish in colour

During sunrise and sunset, the rays have to travel a larger part of the atmosphere because they are very close to the horizon. Therefore, light other than red is mostly scattered away. Most of the red light, which is the least scattered, enters our eyes. Hence, the sun and the sky appear red.

Sun is at the farthest distance during sunset and sunrise.the white light from the sun gets scattered as it travels towrds the earth. The blue colour gets scattered the most, the lightreaching teh eye has white light minus blue light scattered away. red light which is relativley less scattered reaches us the max. hence the sun appears red.:
