Why does taking medicines does not reduse the severity or the disease if we have a common cold​

The medicines that we consume are mostly bacterial. These medicines interfere with the formation of the cell wall of the bacteria. This kills the bacterial.

These pathways do not occur in a virus, thereby, rendering the medicines useless.

Common cold is caused by a class of viruses called Rhino virus.

Moreover the viruses integrate with the genetic material of out immune cells making medicines such as penicillin ineffective against them.

Hence medicines don’t decrease the severity of common cold.
